I believe that counselling should be inclusive for all and as counsellors we should be aware of the many things that a potential client may be and may need to discuss or acknowledge. To that end, I endeavour to be:
Intersectionality aware
Anti-racist
Third culture and mixed heritage aware
GSRD aware
Queer inclusive
Feminist
Single-parent supportive
Polyam and non-monogamous relationship positive
Sex positive and kink/fetish/BDSM aware
Sex work aware
Health at any size
Anti-fatphobia
Disability and chronic illness aware
Immigration aware
Mental health aware
Adverse childhood experiences aware
Trauma informed
Open to correction if I get things wrong.
This matters to me because, all of these things (and more) inform how we move in the world, how we are seen, and how we see ourselves.
They also matter because it is important that you feel that you can bring every part of yourself to our sessions in order to get the most out of counselling.
You don’t need to talk about everything that you are in counselling, but you need to feel confident that you will not be judged if you do.
I want all my clients to feel that if you experience something, you’ll be believed when you feel ready to talk about it.
